The ingenuity of U.S. corn growers was recognized today when Rick Tolman, chief executive officer of the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA), highlighted their ability to meet all corn food, feed, fuel and fiber needs at the Fourth Annual Canadian Renewable Fuels Summit in Quebec City.
Tolman’s presentation looked at how corn growers in the United States have increased production to meet these needs while still netting a near-record surplus. He reviewed trends in corn and ethanol production as well as positive trends when it comes to sustainability issues.
Other speakers at the summit, which wraps up Tuesday, include the Canadian Minister of Agriculture, Gerry Ritz; the premier of Quebec, Jean Charest; and the leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May, whose address directly preceded Tolman’s this afternoon.
