Our View: With Ethanol, Now is the Time for Truth (8-5-10)

Aug 5: The following article by National Corn Growers Association President Darrin Ihnen originally appeared on The Hill’s Congress Blog. Editorialists around the country are opining about tax incentives for ethanol that are expiring at the end of the year. Unfortunately, many of the articles we’re seeing don’t get the facts quite right. The New York Times, for example, asserts that the Renewable Fuel Standard mandates the U.S. production of up to 15 billion gallons of corn ethanol, which it does not. Oil Disaster Shows Need to Support Ethanol (6-14-10)

Jun. 14: The National Corn Growers Association has issued a strong rebuke to those who criticize farmers and others for talking about the benefits of ethanol while the oil industry is facing its worst crisis in generations. There's no better time to talk about solutions to an overreliance on oil, according to NCGA President Darrin Ihnen, a corn farmer in Hurley, South Dakota, in an editorial today.

On Friday, the American Meat Institute posted an aggressive statement on “corn ethanol” on their Web site, apparently in response to our request that they disassociate themselves from radical groups who oppose not only corn and soybean production in the United States but also oppose the meat industry.
